Finding Dory is one of the biggest movies of the summer and is it really any surprise? It's the sequel to one of Pixar's most popular movies ever, starring the breakout star character from that movie, I mean duh! We learned SO much more about Dory, and all of it makes you snot cry. But as much as you might think you know about the movie and the character after seeing it, there are a few things you might not know. Like these things for instance:
This is the third Pixar film where a supporting character from a previous film becomes the main character
In Monsters University Mike takes the lead from Sullie the star of Monsters, Inc and in Cars 2 , Mater takes over for Lightning McQueen. Dory was a clear stand out in Finding Nemo , so it's really no surprise she'd get her own flick, especially when Pixar could find the opportunity for a gut-wrenching back story that makes us all cry forever. If it wasn't for Pixar movies, I might now believe I had a heart at all.
Finding Dory is PG!
Finding Dory is the first Pixar sequel to have different MPAA rating from its predecessor. What happens to make it PG?? Does Dory flash some side boob? Did I miss that?
Fluke and Rudder starred together before!
This lovable duo played by Dominic West and Idris Elba originally appeared together on The Wire (2002). Stringer and McNulty have never been more lovable!
In fact this is Idris Elba's third Disney voice acting role in 2016, including Zootopia and The Jungle Book . The more Idris the better! Even if it is non-sexy cartoon animal roles.
Dory is Pixar's third female lead
After Inside Out and Brave , Finding Dory is the third Pixar movie to have a female lead. It also has a lot of female characters. A lot of that is to do with the fact that it also had a ton of female writers on the movie. Moral of this story? More females need to be in charge and involved in everything. Get with it, people.
Dory is the most liked character on Facebook
With over 25 million likes, Dory is the most liked character on Facebook from any Disney or Pixar film. WTF? I can't believe this. Not about Dory, but that that many people like a character on Facebook. WHY.
Hank was the most difficult animated character Pixar has ever created.
It took Pixar six months to create a single shot of Hank. In fact that's part of the reason he has only 7 tentacles. At some point they realized they didn't have enough room for his eighth tentacle and rewrote the entire story to make Hank a Septopus. And that's how genius is born. Taking a problem and making it a plus. I usually take problems and escalate them. Another kind of genius I guess.
The voice of Nemo is a different person than it was in Finding Nemo .
Even though the movie is 13 years later, the story is actually only 6 months later. So the kid who played Nemo, Alexander Gould is now a grown up. Gould still has a role in Finding Dory though as the voice of a truck driver. I love how once you're in the PIxar family you always kind of are. I wanna be in the Pixar family!
It took awhile to think of making a Dory spin-off
The idea for Finding Dory only came in 2010 when the director, Andrew Stanton, watched Finding Nemo for the first time. How the eff had he not watched it until then? When he was watching it, he knew he had another story to tell and that story was Dory's. So if he never watched it, we would not be snot crying and feeling emotionally fragile all summer long. Thanks, I guess? I mean crying while wearing sunglasses is my summer look.
